21-year-old Travis Coyne from Nottingham is set to join the Britcar Trophy grid this year with the Dragon Sport by Amigo Motorsport team in the Clio Cup class.

Travis entered the Dragon Sport Scholarship in November last year and his talents were spotted by the team of judges. Having made it through to the final 8 shootout, the Civic Cup race winner was selected as a top 4 finalist and awarded a place on the Dragon Sport academy as an ambassador. The winner of the scholarship won a season’s drive in the Clio Cup class of the Britcar Trophy worth over £30,000, with Travis’ academy position including a prize of a shared test day in the race car and support through the year from team mentors. In the following months Travis was contacted by the team about the possibility of driving in a part funded second car in the Britcar Trophy series which he will now compete in during the 2023 season. Travis’ co-driver for the series will be announced soon.

Travis, like many racing drivers, started his career in Karts finishing 2nd and then 3rd in the 2019 and 2020 Super 1 National Rotax Max Championship before graduating to car racing in the BMW 116 trophy. He has also raced and won in the 750 Motor Club Type R Trophy and Civic Cup.

On joining the team Travis said, “I’m really excited for the 2023 season. Rhys, DragonSport and Amigo Motorsport are an amazing team and one which will put us right at the front. I can’t wait to get started.”

Dragon Sport founder Rhys Lloyd said “I was very impressed with Travis at the scholarship day back in November and it’s been great to see his development in early pre-season testing which he has taken to exactly as we wanted. I’m looking forward to seeing how he will get on in the sister Clio Cup car as he is a great signing for Dragon Sport to stamp our authority on the class in the 2023 Britcar Trophy series.”

The team have already begun a winter testing programme with both Clio Cup cars completing a day at Brands Hatch in early February. They will also experience the Donington Park and Silverstone GP circuits before the first round of the championship on the 26th March at Silverstone.
